Die Schlachtschule Canberra - the Drop Bear Brigade
Canberra is the Australian chapter of Die Schlachtschule.
Die Schlactschule ("The School of Battle") is a group dedicated to the study and teaching of the martial arts of
medieval Europe. We use the surviving medieval fencing manuals, or Fechtbücher, to try to learn the ways of combat practiced by medieval knights. We focus on the German fencing manuals dating from the 14th through the late 15th centuries and present a system of combat from grappling, dagger, sword, spear, and pollaxe, both in and out of armour.
Where and when do you practice?
We hold our practice sessions on Monday nights at 6:30pm at the Duntroon Campbell Scout Hall, 28 Blamey Place, Campbell. This is just behind the Campbell shops and the main door is on the shop side.
How much does it cost?
There is a charge of $10 per class (but your first session is free) and if you want to keep training with us you will need to become a member for the purposes of insurance. Membership is $40 a year. Members of other clubs affiliated with the Australian Living History Federation are not required to take out a membership.
What do I need to get started?
A positive attitude and a willingness to learn. Do not be in a rush to buy a cool sword just yet. There is a lot of gear that you will need eventually, but we have loaner gear for newcomers. You can find a list of equipment suppliers in the links page.
If you would like to attend a training session, or want to know more, please email Cornelius at firstname.lastname@example.org
